Gargamel strikes back or how a blue blond belle got the blues and (almost) became Darth Smurfette...4 Aug 2013

By Maciej TOP 500 REVIEWER

I just saw it with my two daughters and we all agreed that this film is BETTER than the first one! Below, more of my impressions, with some limited SPOILERS.

In this film there is more humor and more gags than in the first one - and also there is more of Gargamel and Azrael, who both give a great show, even better than in the first film. In fact this film gives more background information and insight in Gargamel"s soul and mind than all previous comics and cartoons combined. And in some moments the evil wizard really completely steals the show from the Smurfs.

There are two completely new characters in this film, two Smurf-like creatures created by Gargamel (in the same way he created Smurfette) - Vexy and her simple-minded brother Hackus. I found them really touching, especially Vexy who really sincerely loves and desperately tries to please her "daddy".

But the real star of this film is Smurfette, who, in a moment of depression, will let herself slightly veer to the "dark side" - which is not entirely surprising, conmsidering that as a creation of Gargamel she was REALLY and very litterally born to be bad...))) In a serie of scenes very deliberately parodying STAR WARS poor Smurfette will be tempted to "give herself to the dark side" and even will receive the extraordinary invitation "come with me and together, we can end this conflict and rule the world - father and daughter!"...))) There will be even some lightsabers involved - well, OK, kind of. However, this being a kids movie, rest assured that the director didn"t succumb to George Lucas favorite hand-cutting fetish...

Like the first movie predictable but really enjoyable 2 Oct 2013

By shepard123

Brought the first smurfs movie on blu-ray 3D not expecting much but i was suprised that i enjoyed a movie that had a predicable storyline and caracters. The Smurfs 2 is no different but me and my friends actually like this more than the first movie manly it was way more funny.

It was also nice to see the last acting role of Jonathan Winters voice of Papa Smurf who sadly died shortly before the films release. (R.I.P Jonathan Winters)

The release date is also great as it is out just in time for christmas and the 3D is actully just a bit better than first as there is a few more in your face moments.

Overall rating 10/10 (A funny famliy movie definatly worth to watch more than once)

Unlike the cartoon version, the films are strictly for kids and not much entertainment for adults. The second installment assumes you know the characters from the first feature. In this feature, Gargamel (Hank Azaria) manages to kidnap Smurfette (Katy Perry) to CG Paris. The Smurfs mount a rescue.

The film is simple enough for a 5 year old. Older kids might have trouble sitting still through it. The movie makes light of peanut allergies, in spite of them being deadly. Many famous character voices: Jonathan Winters, Christina Ricci, Shaq, Jeff Foxworthy, Jimmy Kimmel, J.B. Smoove, and Peewee Herman.

My suggestion is to make this one a rental unless you have money to burn.

The Smurfs 2 11 Sep 2013

By Gina

I Agree with the other reviewer in that Smurfs 2 was actually better than the first one. It was funny for both kids & adults and my 6 & 3 year old enjoyed this best out of all the sequal films this year. Will defiantly be getting the 3d DVD version when released.
To the Movie guy, it"s usually advisable to see the first film as with most sequal movies, but its hardly rocket science to figure out the characters if you haven"t! bit critical I think!
So if you want something funny and easy to watch with your kids I recommend getting the DVD when it"s out.

    Product Description

Family comedy sequel featuring a blend of CGI animation and live action and based on the iconic characters created by Peyo for the 1980s television series. When the dastardly Gargamel (Hank Azaria) kidnaps Smurfette (voice of Katy Perry) and steals her away to Paris, the rest of the Smurf gang team up with their human friends Patrick (Neil Patrick Harris) and Grace (Jayma Mays) to try and retrieve her from his clutches. However, with Smurfette the key to Gargamel's plans to transform his latest minions, the Naughties (voiced by Christina Ricci and J.B. Smoove), into Smurfs, this will be no simple task - not least because Smurfette seems rather taken by the Naughties...
